PHOTOSHOP!

So, I just looked on the Internet for photoshop. I thought I would try my hand at editing and make some fun creations with the average pictures I take. I'm totally an amateur, no pro here. Apparently photoshop is not for me! I had no idea it was going to be $650-1,000 just for the program! I was reading about it, it looks really complicated too! That's totally pro material, not for me . . .
Anyway, I'm still looking for a program if anyone has any suggestions. Something for an average Joe, way less pricey than photoshop, but still performs well, considering . . . .
Any suggestions?!

V - Hey I recently started doing digital scrapbooking and I use Adobe Photoshop it is a bit difficult...but my girlfriend uses Photoshop Elements and she loves it...she said she purchased a dvd that teaches all about it and she feels she really understands how to do some fun editing with photos and lots of other great things. I would sujest you look into that. By the way love your blog, it is so fun to see your beautiful boys! Loves from Cammie

Hey there V!!!!

I would second the comment above about Photoshop Elements.

It's basically a stripped down version of the Pro version, but you still should be able to do most of the things you would ever want to.

The full version is bloated with excess features and is waaaaay too expensive. I only have a copy because I could buy it back in the BYU days as a student at a discounted rate, and I've since been able to upgrade to the latest version.

Here's something else you might want to try:

This is google's image editor. I've never used it, but it looks like its worth trying out (especially since there is a free download of it!)

Good luck V. Hope you and the fam are doing well!

Oh sorry, I just thought of something else. Isn't Brian getting his Master's degree right now? If he is, then you can get discounted software here:

All you have to do is prove that he is a current student (with a copy of your student ID I think?). Its all full, regular versions of the software, just at a much cheaper price.

Ok so everything I was going to say was already said by your friend Paul. Haha.

We have Photoshop Elements, and it's great. We have the package that comes with Premier as well - which is for editing slideshows and videos.

Yeah you really don't need the 'professional' photoshop unless you are doing a lot of webdesign or photography work, and even then the only advanced features are to do with things you would never even use. I have used both versions.

Also, with any Adobe software you can download a FREE 30 day trial. I have done that with both the "real" photoshop and also InDesign when I was designing my album cover. My Elements was lacking in the ability to convert RGB color into CYMK, which apparently is majorly important to printing companies (they don't accept RGB). The 30 days was just enough time for me to utilize that one feature that my Photoshop Elements didn't have and POOF I was done. ;)

Microsoft Digital Image Suite 10 is the editing program I have (and love). It is very user friendly. I have used it for almost 3 years, and do all my photo editing and scrapbooking on it. (They have a great Archive program that helps you organize your photos into a library... love that feature too). I've tried working Adobe (much harder than MDIS) which is the program my cousin uses in her design business, but I got very confused (maybe because of how I was used to how easy MDIS was).

We got the program for only $60 (was $100, but with rebate brought the price down), and I have seen it at Sams Club for alot less (maybe around $40). I just googled it and Amazon has it for $40.

2 of my sisters scrap on this program too. I can get a page done in usually 20-30 min. I love the options I can do with scrapping, without ruining the pictures and having a mess that can be attacked by my kids. :) I can just save the page and turn the computer off. Those are my 2 cents. ;)
